are there any after market solutions for the terrible craftsman non-standard proprietary miter slots which are 5/8" wide x 3/8" deep. biggest prob is that there are lil flanges so i can’t cut runners to fit in the slots. PLEASE HELP ME.

My husband would like a miter saw. I am thinking about purchasing him one for Christmas. We live in a 1915 home with crown molding. He is wanting to use it for the remodeling we plan on doing.

Any suggestions on what to look for?

I’ve looked at Consumer Reports but their suggestions are from a few years ago.

Bosch says the threaded hole on its miter guage is for after market clamps, etc., but I can’t locate any hold downs other than whole miter guages. I don’t want to spend more than -20.
Is there an easy way to improvise such a hold down for cross-cuts ?
